Why does my computer use so much RAM?

I have 8gbs of RAM and whenever I have the computer open it uses around 50% or higher (75% or higher with apps running, 90% or higher with browser games running) of the memory. This problem occurred literally over night and ever since it's started I haven't been able to find a way to solve this. I've tried restarting, ending tasks, and deleting large files, but this didn't work. Does anyone know a good way to fix this?
