I have a password protected excel file (Office Professional 2016) on my Dell XPS (Windows 11) that has worked perfectly for the last couple of years.

Since the last Windows 11 update to version 24H2 and a crash which autosaved open spreadsheets, I could not open the password protected file. I tried creating another file and protected that file and similarly it did not open, just whirred around or came up with a message "the last time you tried to open filename.xlsx, it caused a serious error". Then I could not open Excel at all. After stopping and re-starting Excel I did manage to somehow open it once. There is no "unprotect button" showing, but I did manage to take off the protection by clearing the password and saving it as unprotecte
