How do i get my input device working again?

My device will no longer record through my laptop. It wont record lectures and people cant hear me during meetings. My input device is still my speakers and when I try to test my recording it picks up nothing at all. Ive tried everything else that it says online but nothing works. My device has access to all the apps needed and it just suddenly stopped working one day.
