many unsuccessful log in attempts

Since November 19th there are unsuccessful attempts to log into my account i check and it seems my email was leaked. my question is should i create a new microsoft account and use that to log in ?And if so can i delete this one or just make it not the one to access my account and hopefully that will stop the attempts to log in with this email.I set up a recovery email and phone but have no idea how to secure account further.I have had this account many years and i would never have known about the log ins if i hadnt connected this account to another compuer.Thank youLaurie
