Galiron Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Im extremely anxious for Guild Wars 2's release, as i've been a gw fan forever. But i'm stuck with this laptop that will most likely not be able to run GW2. My plan to stay cheep is to get this desktop: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+-+Pavilion+Desktop+-+4GB+Memory+-+500GB+Hard+Drive/5563034.p?id=1218661380542&skuId=5563034 Because it seems cheep and effective. When i get it, i want to put the GeForce GT 430 graphics card into it, to give it a super graphics/ ram boost. FYI i am really handicapped when it comes to computer specs and stuff....seems like a foreign language to me :P. I just want to know if this will work, or if it's even the right cheep way? Are there any alternatives?? Quote
Vr5fx Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 I am also looking forward to Guild Wars 2... First off try checking your current specs on here http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/CYRI/intro.aspx I assume as you are linking BestBuy that you are possibly from the States? That PC is to be quite honest.... A pile of crap. Do you have a budget for spending? What about this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gateway-DX4860-Desktop-PC-Intel-Dual-Core-i3-2120-8GB-1-5TB-HDMI-802-11n-DVDRW-/310410203950 Quote AMD FX 6100 @ 3.9Ghz / Asus M5A99X EVO 990X / G-Skill 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz RipjawsX / Zotac GeForce GTX 660 Ti / Corsair TX 750W V2 PSU / Antec Kuhler 620 / Win7 64 / NZXT Tempest 410 Elite / NZXT 6 channel fan controller / Kingston 240GB HyperX 3K SSD / 1TB HDD Intel Pentium G2020 2.90GHz / Gigabyte GA-Z77N-WIFI / Kingston 4GB DDR3 1600MHz HyperX Genesis / Corsair 430W CXM / Fractal Design Node 304 Mini ITX Case / 2TB WD Greenhttp://steamsignature.com/status/default/76561197986113115.png
KenB Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Hi and welcome to ExTS If you are spending $300 on a machine you will get what you pay for. If you read the reviews - only 3 - they are not very complimentary. You will not be buying a gaming machine - one review said ".....emails and general use" The processor is basic. It does have a 64 bit OS but only 4GB RAM You would probably need to upgrade this to 8GB The Hard Drive is 7200 r/m which is better than 5400 r/m on some machines. To answer your question - The specs do not mention a PCIe x16 slot - but most m/boards do have at least one. If it has this then your Video Card will fit - but I doubt that it has ( see below ) At the moment it has on-board video which will be no good for games. Your biggest problem with this machine is the Power Supply Unit. It is external and only 65 Watt For most gaming video cards you need at least 500 watts and often more. You are not going to power any video card with that PSU - and because of this constraint the m/board probably does not have a PCIe x 16 slot. click here These specs make no mention of a PCIe x 16 slot. Synapse Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Just to go a bit further with Ken's points, The PC looks to be a Pavillion P2-1124, link here http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c03364038&lang=en&cc=us&taskId=135&contentType=SupportFAQ&prodSeriesId=5187034&prodTypeId=12454 Motherboard here http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c03014811 No PCI-E slot, which means no video upgrade possible. If you want to play games, look elsewhere. Quote
