Speeding up NTFS access by enabling Content Indexing service?

If i enable the Indexing service and create a Catalog called "system" and

configure for indexing my Win2K3_STD-64 File Server (300.000 files), this

will improve performance on regular operations? ("regular operations" is the

day-to-day tasks for end users, open folders, subfolders and files).

 

It will be better only in "searches" for files?
