Guest George Hardy Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Hi all, I have had terminal servr running for over 2 years, and all of a sudden, 2 of my HP 2600n's stopped working. when printing from remote, it sends it to the client, but stays in the client's spool and wont print. then, if i need to print locally again, i sometimes have to stop and restart the spooler service, so i can delete the print job. very wierd. anyone got any ideas???? thanks! gh
Guest George Hardy Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Re: HP 2600n printer stopped working. one note...these are the only 2 HP2600n printers....they worked fine for months, and kablooeee!!! Was another type of printer added to the server? The newly added drivers may be affecting these printers. Just had a situation where a client added a printer with third party drivers to the TS server and it messed up all PCL6 drivers (8 different types of printers). I used the PCL5 drivers for the same printers and all worked well. moncho

Documented here: http://h71028.www7.hp.com/ERC/downloads/4AA0-8465ENW.pdf And the fact that they have worked for a long time just goes to show the irratic behaviour of incompatible drivers. _________________________________________________________ Vera Noest MCSE, CCEA, Microsoft MVP - Terminal Server TS troubleshooting: http://ts.veranoest.net *----------- Please reply in newsgroup -------------*

You are correct, especially since he has to occasionally restart the print spooler. moncho
Guest George Hardy Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Re: HP 2600n printer stopped working. wierd, since the two printers did work for several months. i guess my magic touch wore off!!! : P is there a way to possibly trick the driver into hp laserjet 4 mode? i know that all (or at least most) HP's can use the base black and white printer driver from the 4 series... hmmm..very strange. george "Vera Noest [MVP]" <Vera.Noest@remove-this.hem.utfors.se> wrote in message news:Xns9B3A9AACFF578veranoesthemutforsse@207.46.248.16... > moncho <moncho@NOspmanywhere.com> wrote on 17 okt 2008: > >> George Hardy wrote: >>> Hi all, >>> >>> I have had terminal servr running for over 2 years, and all of >>> a sudden, 2 of my HP 2600n's stopped working. >>> >>> when printing from remote, it sends it to the client, but >>> stays in the client's spool and wont print. >>> >>> then, if i need to print locally again, i sometimes have to >>> stop and restart the spooler service, so i can delete the print >>> job. >>> >>> very wierd. anyone got any ideas???? >>> >>> thanks! >>> gh >> >> The HP 2600n may not be your problem. I believe it can as long as your printer accepts PCL commands. That is why I recommend any type of Laser that can accept PCL commands because I can always default to the lower class HP driver. moncho > > george > > > "Vera Noest [MVP]" <Vera.Noest@remove-this.hem.utfors.se> wrote in message > news:Xns9B3A9AACFF578veranoesthemutforsse@207.46.248.16... >> moncho <moncho@NOspmanywhere.com> wrote on 17 okt 2008: >> >>> George Hardy wrote: >>>> Hi all, >>>> >>>> I have had terminal servr running for over 2 years, and all of >>>> a sudden, 2 of my HP 2600n's stopped working. >>>> >>>> when printing from remote, it sends it to the client, but >>>> stays in the client's spool and wont print. >>>> >>>> then, if i need to print locally again, i sometimes have to >>>> stop and restart the spooler service, so i can delete the print >>>> job. >>>> >>>> very wierd. anyone got any ideas???? >>>> >>>> thanks! >>>> gh >>> The HP 2600n may not be your problem. Guest Gregg Hill Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Re: HP 2600n printer stopped working. George, See my "Question regarding HP compatibility doc" post on 10/16/08 at 1:52PM...and my answer to my own question. Short answer: Assuming it is a Color LaserJet 2600, no, you cannot map that printer to anything. It does not support PCL. You are lucky that you did not crash the TS print spooler or the whole TS server. As "moncho" said, look for printers that support PCL as they are the most compatible. Guest George Hardy Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Re: HP 2600n printer stopped working. well, funny you mention that.... i also have a toshiba eStudio65 network copier/printer...everytime a Vista machine auto-detects that printer, it crashed the spooler subsystem in Vista, and NOTHING can print after that on that machine. so yea, i guess i was lucky on that one. thanks for the info! george "Gregg Hill" <greggmhill at please do not spam me at yahoo dot com> wrote in message news:%23BzGYXHMJHA.468@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... > George, > > See my "Question regarding HP compatibility doc" post on 10/16/08 at > 1:52PM...and my answer to my own question. > > Short answer: Assuming it is a Color LaserJet 2600, no, you cannot map > that printer to anything.
