Hi,

The specs for your m/board are here:

The m/b has one PCIe x 16 slot so your ATI card will fit.

The m/board can support up to 8GB RAM

If you have a 32 bit OS then you are limited to 4GB as 32 bit Windows will only recognise 4 GB and utilise about 3.5 GB.

Depending upon what wattage PSU you have - you may have to upgrade this.

The suggested wattage for this card is 400Watt - minimum

would the boared fit in my case

The specs for the case state ....Compatible with ATX and Micro ATX Motherboards

So yes - the m/board will fit the case and the Video Card will fit the m/board.

Your PSU is a "no-name" - you would be best advised to spend a little more and get a reliable manufacturer.

Also PSUs are inefficient and it may say 400Watt but you may be lucky to get 380 - 370 Watts ...........especially when it starts to age.

Take a look here

OCZ is a good make and 500Watts will be more than enough - it will even give you the option of up-grading your Video Card.

The OS you are buying is 64 bit - so you would be better with 8GB Ram. (2 x 4GB)

If you are only going for 4GB ( this is a minimum in my opinion ) then get 2 x 2GB

If one goes down you will still be able to use the other.

I assume that this is just a home / office system and is not going to be used for games ?

Looks fine.

You will notice the difference with 8GB RAM and the extra cost for a decent PSU is worth it.

Good Luck with the build.

This will not be suitable for running games but will be a fairly quick general purpose pc.

You do have a heat sink in mind for the cpu ?

EDIT:

it comes with its own fan with a thermal plate already waiting to go on the chip.

Quote from one of the reviews - so it looks as if this is covered.

Hi

would this cpu work better for the games i have planned?

The i5 is a much better CPU.

However ............ if you intend playing games on this machine that Video Card is not up to it I am afraid.

You are going to have to be prepared to spend nearer to £100 [ or more ] on a decent card.

( the cost is going up !! )

Please read the previous post too :)

i may just use my current copy of xp pro insted

I have just registered what you said here....

If this isn't a 64 bit version then 8GB RAM is no use to you.

The system will run slower on 32 bit.

Also - if this is installed on another system it is illegal to put it on a second.

I have asked synapse ( moderator ) to take a look here too.

ive used it about 12 times.

MS are quite clear about the installation - one disk - one machine.

could i use my boot drive from my compaq wich has win 7 installed

If you mean - can I take the hard drive out of the Compaq machine and put it in the new one" ............probably not.

The reason is that the motherboard is different and the installed OS will recognise a different m/board and probably refuse to boot up.

MS have it all wrapped up I am afraid :)

would this gpu be suficcient?

That is obviously much better - it really depends on what games you wish to play.

Synapse is best to advise on Video Cards.

Hang on until he comes on line.

Your mobo choice is socket 775, not compatible with your CPU choice @ socket 1155.

Something like an Asus P8H61-M LE from Ebuyer would do it.[h=1][/h]A Radeon HD 6670 1Gb DDR3 would be a good video card for not too much money.

I see you have swapped your spec a bit along the way, perhaps a good idea to ask all the questions, build the spec and post it.

Total cost has gone up, I guess you could find a compromise if you have a good look around.

Linux then saving up for a system builders version of windows 7

or my dads windows 7 disc if he lets me hes only installed it once and its a family pack version so he can install it on up to 3 systems (according to amazon)

or windows 8 release preview if drivers work (unlike my compaq)
