Since Windows Media Player 9 is not supported anymore in Windows 98 Second

Edition, can users of this newsgroup suggest players that they like to play

*.mp3 files and the like that will work in Windows 98 Second Edition and are

currently supported. I do not mind paying a fee for a good media player if

needed.

RE: New Media Player

Videolan VLC Player 9.0 is supposed to be latest that works on 98SE. (MSFN)

I use ver 8.0 on my 98SE and Vista computers with no problems. Have sound

problems with Media Player and Media Center, for some reason can't get

digital sound from them, only analog. MSFN has a list of software that works

with 98SE. It was last updated 15 October 2008.

RealPlayer v.10.5 plays MP3s under Win98, sounds fine, is free too.

Most any Winamp. Personally, I like the old ones; specifically, V2.5c, d or

e.

RE: New Media Player

Thank you. I will try the vlc player. I wonder about Sun Java because the

last I read that Sun Java 5 will be supported until October 30, 2009 and yet

the website lists it as its last one for development. I have Sun Java 5 with

Runtime 16 and the website lists Sun Java 5 Runtime 15 as the last one. I

think that needs to be fixed on the website.

The older ones are the only one that will work with 98/SE. Not sure how far

back one needs to go but the newer ones require Windows 2000 or later.
