Guest Sam spade Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Ever since I purchased this printer my system at startup runs much slower. Wondering if anyone else has noticed that?
Guest John John (MVP) Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Re: Officejet J4550 Take a look at what it added to your startup entries, it's probably starting several non essential processes or programs when you boot your computer. Start by taking a look in Task Manager to see what is running. Try to remove the extra bits you don't need like the help guide and other software installed with the printer software amy be not need by you! Also try to take it/remove it from the start up list by using this tool: You can download this tool "AutoRuns for Windows" http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx And remove the entry from here: Locate this key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run = look in the right pane/window and remove the entry for the printer and other software belong to it ONLY! HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run = look in the right pane/window and remove the entry for the printer and other software belong to it ONLY! Guest Anteaus Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 RE: Officejet J4550 I always advise against these MFU's. Reason is the heaving mass of putrescent software (mostly unneeded, eg who faxes these days?) they install, slowing the computer and often causing instability as well. Run msconfig, go to the starup page, and untick those entries which are not needed. This may help. It is relatively safe in that you can reinstate them later if they prove to be needed. Guest Sam spade Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Re: Officejet J4550 Actually on your suggestion I was thinking of HP and their "helpful technical support". Spent 2 1/2 hours being bounced aound over a 45 day old wireless mouse that stopped working and I want a replacement (cost $25).
