With Win XP.....on hard drive backups.....does the boot disk the backup

program makes allow you to get to and recover from the files on a USB hard

drive, when the master disk goes sourth?

Yes, it should if it is formatted as FAT32. If it is NTFS, you might

have to use a free 3rd party piece of software or a Live Linux CD with

NTFS support of some sorts to get it off. OR, you can always plug it

into a working XP/Vista computer and get things that way.
