Workgroup Question

I have a server running Server 2003 Standard that I want to set up for a

small group of computers running WinXP Pro for file sharing purposes. I want

to leave the server and computers in a workgroup, rather than adding them to

my domain.

 

Question: If I create a unique workgroup on the server, is there a way to

add some type of security to that workgroup that would prevent users from

adding unauthorized or unwanted computers to that workgroup? Some what like

joining a computer to a domain which has to be done with an account with

proper rights.

Nope. You don't "create" workgroup on a server. Everyone is free to setup

their workstation for whatever workgroup they choose. Workgroup model used

to be called peer network, meaning that all computers in a workgroup are

equal.

No, you can't. You need a domain for this.
