Random Shutdowns that require unplugging to turn back on

Recently my computer has been suddenly powering down, leaving only my keyboard, mic, and ram lights powered on. When this happens, the power button does nothing and the only thing to get it powered back on is to unplug the power cord and plug it back in. I mainly want to know if this is just a hardware or software issue so that i don't waste money on a new psu if i don't need to. I just checked and i don't think it's even creating a minidump file for the power downs.
