i am trying to make a back up thumb drive of my os so i can upgrade my ram how do i do this? i am goimg to install on my new ram

i am trying to upgrade my ram, so i need a bootable thumb drive to bott my pc after i install new memory how do i do this and am i going to need a license to reinstall my os back on my pc?
