Password doom loop when checking out a purchase

I can log into microsoft (at least it appears that microsoft accepts my login as my login name appears in the profile). When I try to checkout a purchase of office 2024, I get stuck in an endless loop of providing my password. Asking for a code to be sent to my email doesn't change anything. I've cleared my browser cache, so that is NOT the issue. Tried multiple computers (Win 10 & 11) and browsers.
