How Do I Download a Large Folder from One Drive?

Somehow, my Documents folder exists only on OneDrive, 58GB. I am moving away from OneDrive so I must download this to my PC. My Windows memory is virtually full. I thought by relocating my Downloads folder to an external drive (F:), I might be able to execute this download, but it always fails with the error message: "there is not enough room on the disk C:......." Its as if OneDrive doesn't recognize the change I made to the default location for Downloads.Have I missed something? Is there a fix for my problem?
