suew203 Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Hello, I am hoping that someone out there will be able to help me with this one. I have an HP, with Windows 7 Home Premium which operates a 64-bit system. I want to create hyperlinks in MSWord documents which can then be transferred to disc. I have tried doing this several times, but once I have transferred the documents to disc the hyperlinks don't work. Can someone advise me where I am going wrong, or what I should be doing? I have a lot of information to put onto disc so it needs to be able to cope with a lot of information. Thanks Sue Quote
KenB Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Hi Sue and welcome to ExTS How are you creating the links? By highlighting the word > "Insert" > hyperlink > and then pasting the link into the box ? Which version of Word are you using ? Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
suew203 Posted July 26, 2012 Author Posted July 26, 2012 Hyperlinks Hello Ken, and thank you for your welcome. In answer to your questions, I am using MSWord Starter 2010. To make a hyper link I do the following: 1 - Highlight text I want as hyperlink 2 - Go to Insert 3 - Go to Hyperlink 4 - Go to Place in this document 5 - Click on bookmarks 6 - Click on existing page 7 - Type in (e.g Sources) in address bar 8 - Click OK & text turns blue I trust I have given you enough info. The reason for needing this help is that I am creating a family tree for a friend, and I want all the documents to link in so that he and other family members can view it on CD. I am also going to have to save the documents in PDF, as there are a lot of them, will this make a difference also to the hyperlinks? Look forward to hearing from you soon, Thanking you in anticipation of your assistance Regards Sue Quote
KenB Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Hi Sue I am no expert on Word - although I do have your version and the full version of Office 2010 I found this that is slightly different to what you have suggested above: Save the document. Select the text or the image that you want to use as the destination for the hyperlink. Click the Insert tab. In the Links group, click Bookmark. In the Bookmark name box, type a unique name for the bookmark, and then click Add. Move the insertion point to the location in the document where you want to create the hyperlink. Click Hyperlink in the Links group. Click Bookmark. In the Select Place in Document dialog box, select the bookmark that you want to use as the destination hyperlink, and then click OK. Click OK to close the Insert Hyperlink dialog box. It was also suggested that you need to save it to disk without putting it in folders after the hyperlinks had been added. From what I have read it is possible :) Get back to us if this doesn't help. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! suew203 Posted July 27, 2012 Author Posted July 27, 2012 Uuummm, not quite solved I'm afraid. Have been tyring just one hyperlink in my document to see if it works, but it doesn't. Have done all the actions to make the link and burned it to CD, but when I open up the CD and select the document I want it still won't open up the hyperlink. I must be missing something somewhere, but I am at a loss to know what. My brain is almost frazzled now!!!! Sorry Ken, I thought this would be easy. Sue Quote
KenB Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 Hi Sue Are you using "relative" hyperlinks - the other option is "absolute" I understand ? suew203 Posted July 27, 2012 Author Posted July 27, 2012 Ken, my thanks to you yet again for getting back to me. I have again printed off the info suggested, and once I have read it (several times) and inwardly digested it I will attempt yet again to make these blooming damned hyperlinks work for me. I really appreciate all the assistance you have offered and I will let you know if this works, but it might not be today, I think I've just about tired out those little grey cells for now. With warmest regards and my thanks once again Sue:ranger: Quote
