PC screen shuts off while playing games but PC itself remains on

This started a few days ago when I unplugged my controller from the PC and then the screen shuts off while the PC remains on. It then continued happening for the rest of the night and over the past couple days. I have tried multiple games and the same result occurs. Once the screen goes black there seems to be no way for me to get it back on without shutting off my pc with the power button. The audio continues to work (at least for a couple of minutes) then sometimes will shut off after a short time. I am still able to hear and speak to friends in discord but I can hear the game audio changes
