My 1tb shows the correct amount in the partition, but is only giving a capacity of 400gbs

As stated, my laptop (technically my fiancés but one I got them) clearly has a 1tb drive inserted, but the capacity is only giving me 400 gbs- with no option to "extend" volume. I can shrink the volume, which shows the right amount of gigs as well.Any insight would be appreciated.
