I want to mount my Mini on it's side. If you do this with a PC it can cause the hard drive to fail if you ever decide to mount it any other way. Will setting my Mini on it's side hurt anything inside the box?

If you install a hard drive in a PC on its side the heads create a groove. If you mount it horizontal after that the head doesn't track correctly.

I have an older version mini and have it vertically mounted and on the wall along with an external hard drive using a couple of hideit mounts. I use it regularly for playing DVDs - there have been a few times where I've had to pop the disc out and start again, but no major issues. The mini works great as a media center - I've got a wireless mouse + keyboard and have the iPhone Air Mouse application which also works pretty well. I use it for streaming Netflix and other online video. Who needs cable tv?!

So far so good with mine. I now have 2 mounted side by side. In the space my old G5 takes I could fit 10 of these with no problem.

You are right. No need for cable. I do have my DirectTV DVR networked so I'll view recorded movies through my mini.

I am not sure where the idea of a hard drive being effected by vertically mounting them came from. I heard the same, but I assume that is an outdated theory. I could take a few pictures of the internals if you like. Hard drives have some killer magnets inside I will tell ya that..
