Geek Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 Once I find an email client that is as good as Outlook I will switch to OS X completely. Now I just boot Windows to check my email. What is a good comparable email client for OS X? Quote
Tony D Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 I use Entourage 2004 which is the Mac version of Outlook. It comes with MS Office for the Mac. Like Outlook, it integrates well with the rest of the Office suite. Alternately, I've heard that Thunderbird is a wonderful email client, but I have no personal experience with it. Geek Posted February 27, 2010 Author Posted February 27, 2010 I'm actually using Thunderbird. I didn't like Entourage. It looks like Office 2011 for Mac will have Outlook. Once that happens I can go OS X full time. I still need to use Outlook and that is the only thing keeping me on Windows. Quote
Tony D Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 What is it in Outlook has keeps you on Windows? Are you connecting with an Exchange server? That's what usually keeps users on Outlook, especially if they have to share their calendar. It can be done, I've done it, but it wasn't seemless. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Geek Posted February 27, 2010 Author Posted February 27, 2010 Yes connecting with exchange server. Sharing the calendar is the main problem. We have to make sure it is shared so that meetings aren't scheduled that conflict. Quote
Tony D Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 I did get that setup for a customer. As I recall, I was unable to get it going initially using his Mac. What I ended up doing was I used a Windows machine to get his calendaring set up. Then when we connected with the Mac - everythiing was there including his calendar which his secreatry could see and update for him. (Note: He was the only Mac user in the company. However, he was the managing partner so he carried some weight.) I found this note: Enabled DAV Required SSL under Advanced tab – it started synchronizing. Sorry but I don't remember what this did as it's been 5 years since that job. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Geek Posted February 27, 2010 Author Posted February 27, 2010 I only have a few months left to wait. Been waiting a long time so a few months won't hurt. Quote
Geek Posted February 28, 2010 Author Posted February 28, 2010 I am the only one that uses a Mac in my office. There is some proprietary software that I get around by using remote desktop for Mac which has come a long way in the last few years. My staff is in awe of OS X. The first time I used my MacBook in a meeting they acted like they never seen anything like it and probably didn't. Quote
