Guest KEN Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 I recently removed my second Hard Drive (D:) but now I need to re-assign the letters. I know somewhere in WinXP this can be done but can't find it. Can someone help. Thanks.

Let me point out that you can reassign any drive letter except the one for the drive Windows is installed on. It isn't clear what drives Ken wants to reassign. Ken should also note that reassigning letters can create severe problems. For example, if you do it for a drive with installed programs, it will leave references and pointers to the programs incorrect, and the programs will fail to work. Be very careful about what you do it with. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP - Windows Desktop Experience Please Reply to the Newsgroup
Guest KEN Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Re: re-assigning drive letters Ken Blake, no don't worry. I'll be verrry careful. Actually after removing the D drive (which was empty and formatted) I plan to assign new letters to my DVD drive and Card Reader. That might cause a minor problem or two, but they should be easy to fix. Real problems are much more likely when you change the letters of hard drives. > "Ken Blake, MVP" <kblake@this.is.an.invalid.domain> wrote in message > news:i37sf4d70df5rdgcnhvlpdn5om2bnrtk2m@4ax.com... > > On Tue, 21 Oct 2008 00:03:17 -0400, "Jerry" <Hello@abcdefgspam.com> > > wrote: > > > >> "KEN" <mnkwms@charter.net> wrote in message > >> news:OKPc3gyMJHA.5228@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... > >> >I recently removed my second Hard Drive (D:) but now I need to re-assign > >> >the letters.
