Geek Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 <div class="KonaBody"><p><img src="http://osxdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/iphone-nano-screen-sale.jpg" alt="iphone-nano-screen-sale" title="iphone-nano-screen-sale" width="620" height="324" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-13992" /></p> <p>While investigating a story about the upcoming <a href="http://osxdaily.com/tag/iphone-5/">iPhone 5</a>, I stumbled across several Chinese resellers who are selling what they refer to as “iPhone Nano” parts and accessories. Most compelling is an LCD screen labeled “for iphone NANO 5″ but there are also several cases that are built for an iPhone that currently doesn’t exist.</p> <p>I had a brief conversation with one of the resellers through online chat, they asked if we needed an LCD screen or digitizer, and confirmed to us that the “iPhone Nano 5″ is an unreleased product:</p> <p><img src="http://osxdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/iphone-nano-parts-chat.jpg" alt="iphone-nano-parts-chat" title="iphone-nano-parts-chat" width="608" height="113" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-13993" style="border:1px solid #ccc;" /></p> <p>I blocked out their full name from the screenshot for obvious reasons. When I asked about other parts, they said there is also a ribbon cable for the “iPhone Nano 5″ available for purchase. </p> <p>To make matters more interesting, the picture of the alleged iPhone Nano digitizer (screen) doesn’t have a home button, which corresponds with past rumors of an iPhone Mini with an <a href="http://osxdaily.com/2011/02/13/iphone-mini-rumors-smaller-iphone/">‘edge-to-edge’ screen</a>. Here’s a larger picture of the ‘nano’ screen available: <span id="more-13986"></span> <img src="http://osxdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/iphone-nano-screen.jpg" alt="iphone-nano-screen" title="iphone-nano-screen" width="535" height="489" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-13987" /></p> <p>The iPhone Mini description of a smaller device without a home button also fits with this alleged iPhone Nano case that is for sale by a different manufacturer. Note there is no space for a home button but it appears to accomodate for an edge-to-edge display:</p> <p><img src="http://osxdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/iphone-nano-case.jpg" alt="iphone-nano-case" title="iphone-nano-case" width="568" height="496" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-13989" /></p> <p>Likewise, here’s the <a href="http://osxdaily.com/2011/02/14/iphone-mini-mockup-screen/">mockup</a> that OSXDaily put together of an ‘iPhone Mini’ with an edge-to-edge screen next to an iPhone 4. The screen and case from above would seem to fit:</p> <p><img alt="iPhone Mini Mockup" src="http://osxdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/iphone-mini-mockup.jpg" title="iPhone Mini Mockup" class="aligncenter" width="620" height="407" /></p> <p>There are a few other “iPhone Nano” cases available, but not all of them match the rumored descriptions of such a device. Here’s one that has room for a home button and shows a much smaller screen, perhaps this is based on different schematics or information:</p> <p><img src="http://osxdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/alleged-iphone-nano-cases.jpg" alt="alleged-iphone-nano-cases" title="alleged-iphone-nano-cases" width="518" height="385" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-13988" /></p> <p>Do these cases and LCD mean anything? Nobody knows but Apple. It’s entirely possible that this is a mislabeled LCD screen and that the LCD and case manufacturers are working on inaccurate information, but it certainly makes you wonder especially in lieu of recent rumors about such an iPhone. </p> <p>The idea of an <a href="http://osxdaily.com/tag/iphone-mini/">iPhone Mini</a> have both been spread by and subsequently shot down recently by major news organizations, including the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. Apple’s COO even <a href="http://osxdaily.com/2011/02/28/apple-coo-hints-at-cheaper-iphone-prepaid-iphones/">hinted at a cheaper iPhone coming</a> in the future, which some interpret as potentially being a smaller model.</p> <p>I wouldn’t be surprised if these items get pulled down, but as of the time of writing you can find them for sale on <a href="http://sltx.en.alibaba.com/product/359568528-2231570075/Brand_new_LCD_screen_for_iphone_NANO_5.html">alibaba</a>.</p> </div> <p><a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/z3wRUPyeX5YFj2QXd0JRo9Rr6SU/0/da"><img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/z3wRUPyeX5YFj2QXd0JRo9Rr6SU/0/di" border="0" ismap="true"></img></a><br/> <a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/z3wRUPyeX5YFj2QXd0JRo9Rr6SU/1/da"><img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/z3wRUPyeX5YFj2QXd0JRo9Rr6SU/1/di" border="0" ismap="true"></img></a></p><div class="feedflare"> <a href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/osxdaily?a=lZSOLu0MJjY:LHye5xIvkEM:yIl2AUoC8zA"><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/osxdaily?d=yIl2AUoC8zA" border="0"></img></a> <a href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/osxdaily?a=lZSOLu0MJjY:LHye5xIvkEM:V_sGLiPBpWU"><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/osxdaily?i=lZSOLu0MJjY:LHye5xIvkEM:V_sGLiPBpWU" border="0"></img></a> <a href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/osxdaily?a=lZSOLu0MJjY:LHye5xIvkEM:D7DqB2pKExk"><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/osxdaily?i=lZSOLu0MJjY:LHye5xIvkEM:D7DqB2pKExk" border="0"></img></a> <a href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/osxdaily?a=lZSOLu0MJjY:LHye5xIvkEM:7Q72WNTAKBA"><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/osxdaily?d=7Q72WNTAKBA" border="0"></img></a> <a href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/osxdaily?a=lZSOLu0MJjY:LHye5xIvkEM:qj6IDK7rITs"><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/osxdaily?d=qj6IDK7rITs" border="0"></img></a> </div><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/osxdaily/~4/lZSOLu0MJjY" height="1" width="1"/> View the full article
