Problems with sharing a file on FileMaker Pro 11 using IWP

This issue is not mine directly, but I having it in one of my voluntary works . They use Mac OS X Snow Leopard and they use FileMaker. In a sudden, and without good reason, a particular part of the database can not be shared using IWP so members of the charity can not open the file when they need it. I did advise them to use other kind of sharing online without using FileMaker, but is a matter of security and they are not willing to change anyway. The contents of the file are very sensitive due the profession of the members and the social status of the “clients”.

 

The file can be open from the host PC but not from the remote PCs or laptops as before.

 

We did try all the tricks on the book with not avail, especially the ones about the ports 80 and 591. Until last week all was OK; no updates, upgrades, software improvements or changes were done in the meantime but since the last Monday doesn't work.

 

 

There are a lot of similar cases –or just the same- with all the FileMaker versions in several Forums but no one of their solutions proposals did work for us (and not for a lot of the people that made the posts either…).

 

What can be the problem and how to resolve it?
