Guest G. Lyon Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Release notes for SP2 recommend upgrading SP1 installations using Windows Update to ensure all components work correctly. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc773361.aspx What does Microsoft propose for an organization where servers are isolated and cannot use Windows Update? Has Microsoft provided a comprehensive list of actions to be taken in this situation?

You'll have to update it at the console via SP2 on a USB drive or CD-R. If you do migrate to SP2, I recommend installing the update to turn OFF the SNP. - Thee Chicago Wolf
Guest G. Lyon Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Re: Upgrade Windows Server 2003 SP1 to SP2 I already have the SP2 download. The claim in the release notes for the download is : "If you are installing SP2 on a computer running SP1, to ensure that certain applications and components (such as Windows .NET Framework 2.0) function properly, install SP2 by using Microsoft Update (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=85856). " Without WU or WSUS available in a segmented network what is the resolutions required and for what components other than the one mentioned? G. They are just saying Windows update is the official site to use to get the official MS SP2. If you download it from Windows update and burn it to CD, you got the MS "official" SP 2 release from Windows update. hth DDS "G. Guest Meinolf Weber Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Re: Upgrade Windows Server 2003 SP1 to SP2 Hello G. Lyon G., Download it from the official MS site and burn it to disk or use USB and install it from there or over the network. We do it allways that way without any problem. Or you can use WSUS (freeware) or SMS from MS. Guest G. Lyon Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 Re: Upgrade Windows Server 2003 SP1 to SP2 Thanks Danny for concuring with my thoughts that Microsoft's wording was poor in intimating WU as being the sole route of upgrade in this particular case. Would be nice if they took a little more care in their release notes since they are being read by technical implemeters of their products.
