Guest kenw Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 I've found many threads which are oh-so-close to describing my problem -- but no solutions. The displayed font for dialogs, etc are a in tiny little font which in nearly unreadable. An example is the "Turn off computer" dialog: The font on the title bar looks to be courier (but other dialog title bars have a different font). It says "Turn off compu" before the text get clipped. The yellow, red, and green icons are not squares but rectangles. The "cancel" font is in a tiny font. I cannot affect any of these fonts through the Display Properties: Appearance: Advanced tab even though the preview indicates the change. I don't know if this has any bearing, but my unhappy PC has 923 hidden *.fon files while my happy PC has *only* 129 (a complete subset of the 923). Both machines are XP Home SP3 -- ken williams

Guest kenw Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 RE: Unreadable/unchangeable fonts Of course there are ttf files on the PC. But, wow, the number! Happy PC has 261 *.ttf. Unhappy PC has 2,339 *.ttf files. I'm suspecting this may be the problem ... -- ken williams "Andrew E." wrote: > Try microsoft typography,it is a font package, get it > at:http://www.microsoft.com/typography/WhatIsTrueType.mspx > > "kenw" wrote: > > > I've found many threads which are oh-so-close to describing my problem -- but > > no solutions. > > > > The displayed font for dialogs, etc are a in tiny little font which in > > nearly unreadable. > > An example is the "Turn off computer" dialog: The font on the title bar > > looks to be courier (but other dialog title bars have a different font).
