I just bought a Mac Mini 2012 era computer.

I upgraded the memory to 16 GB (purchased on Amazon for under $100), memory upgrade went easy and just works.

I also replaced the disk with a Samsung SSD 500 GB, (also ordered from Amazon for under $200, total for both was $235). installing the disk was a pain in the butt, it took hours. I formatted the disk and did a carbon copy clone from my prior disk prior to the install. To do that I put the new sad disk in an external enclosure and connected it by USB. Everything worked when I was done so it was worth doing.

I also connected an Asus PB278Q 27" monitor. Wow what a nice monitor. The increased resolution and clarity are great. I am connecting the monitor with a DVI cable to the DVI to HDMI adapter that came with the Mac Mini.

I do have a question however; would there be any advantage to connect the monitor to the display port on the Mac Mini? I can get a DVI to display port adaptor to make the connection. At very least it would free up the HDMI port on the back of the mac mini.

DVI is the way to go. Better refresh rate. Although you won't see much of difference if connected to the display port.

That is a nice upgrade. I have a 2009 Mini and did something similar to it a couple years ago. The Mini still serves me well.
