Recently, I started getting BSODs more and more frequently. Now, when I try to start up, a blue screen flashes and then the computer reboots and goes into startup repair (which does nothing).

I have disabled automatic reboot so I can see what the blue screen says, which is:

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}

The verification of a KnownDLL failed. system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000020 (0x04af3130 0x00000000).

The system has been shut down.

I have tried pressing F8 and running last successful configuration - no good.

I have a Dell XPS420. It is about five years old. It was originally Vista but I upgraded to Windows 7 about five months ago. I do not have the Windows disk.

Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help.

I had a look at Microsoft's site regarding that error report and found an answer to exactly the same error for you, have a look here=

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-performance/please-help-i-dont-know-anything-about/1f949d08-b818-47d3-a660-0da74a49dbb1?auth=1

There is a tremendous amount of information with possible fixes in there. One of which mentions borrowing a Windows 7 disk if possible, and that may be the best option as it looks like a system file is either missing or corrupt.

Obvious question has to be..... how did you install Win7 WITHOUT A DISC?
