Can I get XP to shutdown when I close laptop lid?

The only Power Button options for closing the lid are (1) Do nothing,

(2) Standby, and (3) Hibernate.

Google turned up several sites that say these are the only possible

options. Is that true? Is there no way for me to get XP to do a

Shutdown when I close the lid?

You really shouldn't do that. If you were sitting somewhere and want to move

you close the lid to move. (Did NOT want shutdown)

Then I'll learn not to do that.

Are you the same person who puts those kid-proof lids on everything

from aspirin to nail polish?

Naw! The government edicts that. As for shutdown, go ahead. Like you say

it's your laptop. But, no detrimental help from me.

Actually, no help of any kind. I think this means that you don't know

how to do it.

In the power options should be what you want to do when the sleep button is

operated. In a laptop closing the lid operates the sleep button. All you

have to do is set it to do what you want.

Personally, I make mine hibernate then there is no possibility of losing

anything because, it can happen that something doesn't quite shut down

properly putting a dialog box up on the screen - a screen you can't see

because the lid is closed. It also makes it much quicker to start up again

and it starts exactly where you left off.
