What Linux Distros do start from external drive?

Hi,

 

I was wondering if there are any Linux Distros out that I can put on an external SSD and boot from my MacPro by pressing "option" at startup.

I tried to boot the new Linux Mint 21 "Vanessa" and Ubuntu Desktop 22.04 LTS. Both withou luck.

Both look promissing as they start to boot, and the splash screen is visible, but afterwards it ends up in black screen.

 

(Just to be clear I do not plan to install it on the internal drive, I just want to boot linux from an external drive.)
