Guest Charlie Q Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 Dell E6500 XP Pro SP3. Just today, my existing VPN connections disappeared, and when I go to add new connection, the VPN option (and dialup option) are grayed out. I have read all the previous posts about enabling services, removing RasMan registry entries, etc all to no avail. It doesn't matter whether I do this with my ID (has admin rights) or administrator. Will not let me start Remote Access Connection Manager service - gives Error 5: Access is denied. Help!
Guest Charlie Q Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Re: VPN Option Grayed out Thanks for your note. I have already been though your suggestions from another post. Weird thing... I came back in this morning after the weekend; computer told me that an automatic update had caused a reboot. Not only are the services running and Add New Connection works correctly, but my previously set up VPN connections are back! The update that happened over the weekend was KB958644. It has something to do with a remote access vulnerability - maybe I was a victim of the hole? "Kelly" wrote: > Hi, > > Standard Checkpoints: > > Go to Start/Administrative Tools/Services.
