Guest NBK Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 Hi I have Windows XP Pro SP3. I have a folder full of large *.avi's in thumbnail mode. Everytime i mouse over one of the avi's Windows Explorer closes and restarts. I checked Event Viewer and it appears that shmedia.dll is causing this. Is there a fix? Please help NBK
Guest Kelly Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 Re: shmedia.dll and windows explorer closes!!! See if this helps: Go to Start/Run/CMD and type in: regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll To re-enable it: regsvr32 shmedia.dll Added info: AVI Search Remove (Line 74) http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm Manual: Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to the key below and delete the default data (right pane). Or: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\shellex\PropertyHandler Windows Stops Responding When You Click a Large AVI File in Windows Explorer" http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=822430 -- All the Best, Kelly (MS-MVP/DTS&XP) Taskbar Repair Tool Plus! http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm SupportSpace http://www.supportspace.com/pages?aiu=kellyskorner "NBK" <no.spam@spamless.net> wrote in message news:u0$42diNJHA.728@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... > Hi > > I have Windows XP Pro SP3.
