Camera seems to randomly operate in the background - should I be concerned?! (12 Pro - iOS 17.5.1)

One of my iphone 12 Pro camera lenses is broken and it makes a clear audible static sound whenever I open it (As in everyone around me notices when I launch the camera).

 

I’ve noticed that randomly while my iphone is sitting idle on a table, the camera static sound would come up for 1-3 seconds. It only happens after the iphone has been sitting for a longer while and it’s creeping me out because of it’s not for the sound, I wouldn’t have known that it operates in the background.

 

What could be causing this? Is there a legit use of the camera in background?

 

I noticed this is happening once every few days.
