Guest patetc Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 I had to reinstall Windows XP and SP3. Now when I start Windows, I have to click on my user name to logon. Previously Windows started automatically. I can't find an option to change this as administrator. Since I'm the only user on my computer, I don't want this extra step before Windows starts. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? Thanks. Pat

There is a logon option that allows you to logon without entering anything. I thought there was another way too like User Accounts or something that allowed you to automatically logon to one account at boot. But I don't see that option anymore. Maybe it was gone after SP2 or something. MS TweakUI http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/Downloads/powertoys/Xppowertoys.mspx -- Bill Gateway MX6124 - Windows XP SP2
Guest patetc Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Re: Can I Logon Automatically in Windows XP Thanks! I downloaded and installed it! Pat P.S. I like that you can get rid of those shortcut arrows too. Go to the Start menu, click Run, and type in the following: control userpasswords2 Uncheck the box that says "Users must enter a user name and ... " , and click the OK button. You will be presented with a password dialog for the currently logged in user. Now when you reboot your system, you will automatically be logged in.

Slight extension: If the OP single-clicks ***any*** user name then he will be prompted for the password of that user (which does not need to be the logged-on user).
