You can always download the full SP3 CD, get NLite, and create a Slipstreamed SP3 CD. You should be fine after that. - Thee Chicago Wolf
Guest JS Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Re: insert "xp professional service pack 3 cd" You need to create a slipstreamed CD using your existing XP CD and incorporating SP3 I use AutoStreamer, it's easy to use and for the most part self explanatory Auto Streamer Guide and Download Sites: http://www.simplyguides.net/guides/using_autostreamer/using_autostreamer.shtml http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/1092632287/1 Where to download SP3 SP3 file download: (File is large but will only install components that you PC requires) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5b33b5a8-5e76-401f-be08-1e1555d4f3d4&DisplayLang=en Create a Slip Stream version of Windows XP using SP3 http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/slipstream.htm (Using AutoStreamer) http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp3_cd_final.htm http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/xpsp3_slipstream.asp The slipstreamed CD you create will not include any specific drivers for your motherboard, audio, video, network, etc. Those you will need to download from your PC manufacture's or motherboard's web site. What do i do? > Hi Jimmy, Do a search for a i386 folder on your hard drive(s). Check the dates of some files to see if they're dated 04-14-2008, if so, use the Browse in the dialog box to point to that folder so Windows can find what it needs. If you used Windows Update for SP3, you may want to download the full service pack and extract it: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5B33B5A8-5E76-401F-BE08-1E1555D4F3D4 I placed the downloaded file into a folder called SP3 and then launched it (and canceled the install after the extraction but the folder remains). There will be an i386 folder in the extract that you can point Windows to. -- Terry R. ***Reply Note*** Anti-spam measures are included in my email address. Guest Twayne Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Re: insert "xp professional service pack 3 cd" How do you go about testing such a beast to be certain it works before you need it? It looks like an all or nothing thing; not the sort of thing I want to run if I don't have to. You could use a third party program to partition your drive with some unused space, so installing the "trial" could be done there. When you're done testing, you could remove the trial partition and then expand the existing partition to the size you require. You'd have to remove an entry from boot.ini, but that's easily done. I created a slipstreamed SP3 CD for network installs, but with so many different workstations, it didn't make much sense to try and have all the drivers slipped in also. I just download the appropriate drivers to a flash drive, install XP and then load the drivers. -- Terry R. ***Reply Note*** Anti-spam measures are included in my email address.
