Cannot sign in to messenger or load hotmail sign-in webpage

login.live.com

Getting Network timeout for hotmail and Msn instant messenger will

not work.

Tried trillian. It kind of worked, but kept knocking me off every few

seconds.

What is odd, it works for people that have direct connection but not

dial-up. My mothers work can access hotmail. They have wireless

access. The two dial up ISP, I tried timed out.

I checked my host file, there is nothing that would block it.

I tried different browsers and neither worked.

Not sure, but check for a blockage of Omniture/SO7.net and Akima Tech.. Both

are apparently part of the signin process now [and WHY is beyond me...].

Also, make sure you have installed the Security Certificate...

AND, what version of JAVA are you using?

Are you using the https signin?

Messenger was updated [no support for 98], I don't use it so I can't verify

whether that may be a problem.

Re: Cannot sign in to messenger or load hotmail sign-in webpage

Should have mentioned that if on phone line, letting the initial sign-in

page run until it stops [takes quite awhile] will cause it to popup the

sign-in screen again.

IF you wait about 30 seconds after the original signup... and click reload,

the signup process will generally finish properly [signed-in]. {look at the

bottom of the browser for the address which indicates its loading the

signed-in page...}

This is exactly like a problem they had approx. five or six months ago...

Are you saying that people who have windows 98 will not be able to use

instant msn messenger anymore even if they use a 3rd party like

trillian? There are Linux users that use something else to connect

to msn.

I hope microsoft is not blocking hotmail and instant messenger from

people that are still using windows 98se.

What Security Certificate?

No.. at least not yet.

What I attempted to supply was the method and requirements for

Hotmail/LIVE...

The servers have been modified again. The method I provided works, just

checked it again.

The system checks and other {DRM ?, etc.} [what's going on during the login

delay] are causing login failures over phonelines (too slow with the

transfer in<>out)..

Again, not yet... say you didn't make the mistake of filling out those

supposed LIVE/MSN/HOTMAIL scam forms being sent the last week or so did you?

There was an official Notice sent concerning Messenger service,, and there

is some info on LIVE - MSN concerning it. Might want to check...

|

| What Security Certificate?

The one needed to access the site/service. If yours is outdated you won't

be able to login. Try using the https entry point, it will advise you if the

certificate is outdated. Install it if offered, should be good until 2009

[unless its compromised again]

Since, I use outpost free version. I think the problem is

all-routers.mcast.net

Now to figure out hot to force outpost to accept that.

Update

Stealth Mode Block RST IEXPLORE.EXE mail.live.com HTTP

Outbound TCP

Stealth Mode Block RST FIREFOX.EXE http://www.hotmail.com HTTP

Outbound TCP

Strange. When I put outpost in disable mode. This is what showed

up.

Running shield ups in without outpost disable mode

All ports open.

Running shield up in with outpost shutdown and exited

Then it shows

Port 314-319, 384-415,432-437 blocked

Hotmail works, instant messenger works.

However, it does not work on IE. Go figure.

It just does not load-no error message.

Running shield up in Rule wizzard

Ports closed are 113, 1025, 1026, 1029, 1030

The rest are stealth.

I still think it has something to do with

all-routers.mcast.net

What else do you have installed in your system?

You running a HOSTS file too???

What AV program??

Any special settings you applied?

Looks like either you re-configured your firewall or it needs modified, OR

you are experiencing conflicts between installed applications.

all-routers.mcast.net should be blocked if on phoneline ; if you have it

locally [meaning just on your ISP] then its the function that keeps the

routers [theirs and yours] synchronized and sharing common information

{something like: 10.1.3.2 and 10.1.3.3 to all-routers.mcast.net on port

1985 - CISCO}, OR it can be a phone-home application, OR a security risk...

[depends upon just what uses it to connect]

Search on one of the search engines for all-routers.mcast.net, it is

discussed quite often.

You have me puzzled, you indicated that it worked [Hotmail and Messenger]

with another "hi-speed" connection, but not with yours,,, so what is your

connection [style and ISP]?

DO? YOU? HAVE? A? ROUTER????

Thank you for your help.

Unfortunately still on dial-up. I fixed the problem. It had

something to do with outpost firewall. I uninstalled it and the

reinstalled the program and now everything is fine.

I think what happen is when I restored the computer last week, the

files of outpost did not restore correctly. Some files became

corrupted and some how blocked login.live.com which also blocks msn

instant messenger. Ironically at the same time, some people were

having problems connecting to msn instant messenger.
