Buying Mac Mini M4 Base

I'm thinking about buying a Mac Mini M4 Base. I don't actually need it as I currently have a Macbook Air M1 Base and a Windows gaming PC (R7 5800x, 6700xt). I'm currently in the last few months of my studies and I'm only writing my final thesis.

I use the Macbook Air the least at the moment as I work almost exclusively from home. I don't want to sell it until I've finished my Master's thesis, as I'll be spending a few more hours in the library. I don't use it as a desktop replacement at home because I can only connect one external display and I always work with two external displays.

My idea was to solve this ‘problem’ with the Mac Mini. The performance of the base model is enough for me and the student price is simply very tempting. I have the money for it and wouldn't have to limit myself. In a year's time I can probably sell the Macbook Air for a similar price. My advantage would be that I could completely separate university and leisure time and only use the Macs for productive activities & I can use two external monitors. I only get the student price as long as I am still a student.

I now have the following questions:

  1. How stupid does my thought sound?

  2. Can I also use my trackpad from the Macbook Air for the Mac Mini? I have a keyboard and mouse, but I prefer the trackpad on Macs and an external trackpad costs 139€
