Any method of blocking a number without having to add them as a contact?

Unfortunately over the years due to work I’ve been in situations where my number has gotten into the hands of weirdos hence the need to block them. I recently transferred from android to IPhone however am struggling to find out how I can block these numbers without having to add them as a contact. I had a look online but kind of leads me in circles. Is there no way to block random numbers by just adding them on a block list???
