Still got my M1 Pro 16 inch, hadn't had to use any of the campus' computers so far. Matlab, Fusion360, Arduino, all work great natively. I've got Parallels 20 too for stuff that hasn't been ported, programs like SolidWorks run great and there's even a mod to get realview graphics to work. There may be a point in time where I have to get Ansys to work, that's where there might be some problems. Many people said you shouldn't have an Apple Silicon Mac as your main computer for many engineering courses. Haven't really had the "pain" people have talked about using a Mac for such a course.
