Software Engineers, Why Do You Like Your Macs?

I'm a 34-year-old software engineer, and I have 4 other friends who are also software engineers. We've known each other for more than 14 years. All five of us started out using Windows, then eventually became devoted Linux users. We’ve been using Linux as our primary operating system for over 9 years, and we used to dislike Apple products for being closed-source and less customizable compared to Linux.

About a year ago, one of my friends got a Macbook through his job. Initially, he wasn’t a fan, but after a few months, he began to like it, and now he loves it. He even convinced three of our other friends to switch to Macbooks. Keep in mind, these are hardcore programmers (3 of them are backend programmers, 1 Android developer, I'm a frontend developer) & hardcore linux guys! When I asked them what they liked about Macs, they told me, “It’s boring, in a good way.” We used to spend a lot of time configuring and tinkering with Linux, but macOS is designed to be ready for productivity, it just works. You don't have to think about other things outside the thing you work on, You open the laptop just start working and the tools are often better supported than on Linux, and the apps feel more polished and beautiful.

I recently tried out a Macbook for a couple of hours, and now I’m considering getting an M4 Pro Macbook Pro. I’ve been watching reviews, but I'd love to hear from other software engineers about their experiences with Macs before making a decision.

Thanks!
