Guest Johnson L Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 I have Internet Explorer 6.0 installed for Windows XP SP2. Now I want to upgrade it to Internet Explorer 7. However, my computer didn't allow me to install IE7 directly, and didn't allow me to save the installation exe file as well. It showed an error message as well to show the file can't be saved. I download the installation file to a USB memory stick from another computer, and hopes it work. However, I can see the file in my computer with explorer, but it don't respond to the click. It just halts there. Any idea to solve my trouble? Thanks!
Guest PA Bear [MS MVP] Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Re: Internet Explorer 6.0 cann't upgrade Required reading IMHO before installing IE7: Sandi's Installation Tips <= Steps #1-8, #10 & #11; take note of #12, then STOP! http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install (ignore any references to Vista) And I strongly recommend using http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx as the installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update. Alternately, use this Direct Download link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=9ae91ebe-3385-447c-8a30-081805b2f90b Tip: Save the installer to your desktop, do not Run it. Make *certain* that you check in at Windows Update immediately after installing IE7 and install any critical updates offered. If Optional Updates category offers Root Certificates update, I recommend installing it to take full advantage of IE7's additional security. Guest Doug W. Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Re: Internet Explorer 6.0 cann't upgrade A fully patched IE6 is as secure as IE7...consider yourself lucky. I use Avant browser which has an IE base and has TABS just like IE7 and works just fine. Some people have had trouble with IE7 but from comments read most users are happy with it. Add-ons as used with IE6 can be problematic but most of these problems have been resolved I believe. If you can't solve your problem with IE7 then Avant is worth consideration.
