Guest /u/Lanky_Bar_5141 Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 Hi all! I'd be grateful for your advice, please excuse me I'm not very tech savvy. I have an 11 inch, early 2014 Macbook Air which is currently running macOS Big Sur. It has a 1.4GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of memory and 121GB of storage. I haven't been getting software and security updates for a while, so I decided to ask a local independent mac store what to do. They suggested wiping my laptop and externally loading Monterey instead, which they described as perfect for my older laptop as it wouldn't overload it and slow it down too much. I queried how long the Monterey system would be supported and they didn't seem to know - but I googled it and it looks like support ends this month? They then suggested updating me to Ventura, which google suggests may stop being supported next year. I'm a bit confused as to whether it's worth getting either of these software updates. Is it still worth getting Monterey or am I just getting myself into the same situation as I have already with Big Sur? Will Ventura slow down my laptop too much, as it's quite old? It's not too expensive to update the software, but I don't want to pay £150 to realise that it wasn't worth the money at all and I should have put it towards a new laptop. It's not an ideal time to spend lots on a new laptop either, if I can push this one for another couple of years it would be helpful. Thank you! submitted by /u/Lanky_Bar_5141 [link] [comments]
