Spanish XP

HI everyone - my daughter has just managed to get a nasty virus on one of my Dell PCs which is proving very difficult to remove - and as the machine itself holds no important data I wanted to simply reinstall the OS and rebuld the machine.

 

I already have several of the same machines (Dell 755s) but they have English operating systems but this one has Spanish which my wife and kids like to use - but I only have the English versions of the reinstallation disks - Does anyone know where I can get a Spanish version of a Dell XP SP3 reinstallation disk?

joddle if I remember right Windows comes with most languages. When installing you will be promped as to which language you want to use. Simply choose the language.

 

If they are the same computers then the Dell recovery disks should give you the option as far as I know.

 

You might want to try a virus clean up. We do have some excellent security experts here.

Thats the bit I'm not so sure about - I though the option only gave you the keyboard to use etc - not the whole operating system. What I need is everything to be in Spanish but I have only the Dell reinstallations disk which I know will install in English, THese I dont think are exactly the same as the full Microsoft ones - and I know you can get Spanish XP Pro disks so had assumed the reinstallation diska would also be language specific. Woudl be very happy to be proved wrong on this!!!

 

Re virus clean up - one of your people has tried very hard to help me re another PC and it ended up being easier and safer to rebuild!

Thanks for that but that link is for Vista not XP - I have now looked at this link

which seems to cover the same topiic for XP but again is it just the instructions in Spanish or the whole operating system changes by the language option ? - on the Spanish part of the Dell site all the instrucitons on the screen shots are in Spanish - even those at the start of the installation which makes me think the OS part may differ as well. Its all a bit ambiguous so I may not know for sure until I try it with my current disk !!!

Hi, though it is a long time since I did similar and put my laptop back to factory settings, I do seem to remember in the initial stages you are offered a drop down menu of the language you wish the operating system to work in. If however that option is not there, you can still install the system, then obtain (For free) the relevant language pack from Microsoft.

I honestly don't see what the issue is here. Microsoft does not make separate windows disks for each language. If you are leaving XP installed just go to the region and language icon in your control panel and select a language. In W7 there are about 20 different versions of Spanish you can select. I believe the same to be true in XP although I didn't look as closely. There are certainly a number of choices for spanish. If that does not work with your keyboard then you can go to the next tab and select a new layout.

 

If you are reinstalling windows either select Spanish to start with or install in a language that is better for you and then change it to Spanish in the control panel. If your control panel has no options then there is something wrong with your version of Windows. My version of XP was purchased in Ireland. There are a few differences between the newer European versions and the one in the US but those differences deal with litigation that took place in Europe and browser issues not language.

what kind of virus is it?? what kind of method do you tried to remove this virus??

 

I see you all over the place but this has nothing to do with any virus. This is a reinstall issue. Not to mention the fact that the OP has not been back in over a week.
