Guest /u/epicenthusiast007 Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 Hi all, I own a mid-2017 iMac 27-inch with 40GB RAM (upgraded) and a 1TB Fusion Drive. I realize that upgrading the internal storage is also crucial for my workflow as a photographer. I seek advice on the best course of action for replacing the Fusion Drive with an SSD. Here is the situation: I already own a Samsung NAND 860 EVO 500GB SSD purchased five years ago for a Windows PC build that I never completed. I am considering replacing the Fusion Drive with this SSD. However, 500GB may be insufficient for my storage needs as a photographer. Thus, I am exploring the option of upgrading to a 1TB SSD instead. My questions: Is replacing the internal HDD in the Fusion Drive setup with the Samsung EVO 860 (500GB) a good idea? Will it significantly improve performance? If upgrading to a 1TB SSD is a better option, which SSD models and brands would you recommend for internal use in an iMac? Additional Information: I reside in India, so recommendations available in the Indian market would be most helpful. Thank you in advance for your guidance. submitted by /u/epicenthusiast007 [link] [comments]
