Guest /u/rudibowie Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 I don't recall in which iOS release this was introduced but some time ago Apple elongated the listening period at the end of each user exchange with Siri, just to check there wasn't a follow-up question from the user. I think the intention here was to add 'context', so you didn't need to repeat everything again in small, follow-up questions. They way Apple executed this was simply to leave the listening window open for longer, thereby extending the length of the exchange. So, Siri listens for a seconds after one stops speaking. The laziness of this approach is that Siri no longer identifies voices once a conversation has begun. It thinks it doesn't need to. The result of that is risible. So, now Siri listens to and responds to other voices in the environment. For example, I'll be listening to a talk radio station and ask Siri something. It'll respond to me, but it'll keep listening, overhear a word from the radio show and start responding to that. I could forgive it if the voices were anything like mine, but they're not. I'm a mid baritone. Siri will overhear a lady's voice in the soprano range and respond. Software from Apple is now just junk layered upon junk.
