Wife phone refuses to create a “People” category for pictures of herself

I’ve had a frustrating weekend trying to figure out what is going wrong here. I can see from Google results I’m not alone in this issue, but basically my wife’s phone IS creating collections for various people in her photos, there’s one for me, our son, here mum & dad, brother, sister, even our dog…. But it absolutely refuses to make one for her!

 

What’s even more frustrating is many of her pictures of herself, I have copies of my phone, and my phone HAS made a collection for her pictures. Implying there is no reason for the phone not to be able to recognise they are pictures of the same person.

 

Most of the solutions on the internet I’ve found, all point to going into the info pane of the individual photos and manually label the picture with her name… however, I cannot do that because the info pane has nowhere to label her name, as it just appears to not even recognise the pictures are of a person.

 

This all came to light because it became apparent from messing with the Apple AI image gen tools, that the phone just has no idea what she looks like, even though she has a photo in her contact card (which is correctly set to “me”).

 

Has anyone here ever come across this issue and found a solution?
