Help me understand the ABSOLUTELY HORRID bluetooth connection logic please.

Ok so if my bluetooth earbuds are connected to my android, and I try to connect to them on my iphone, they disconnect from my android and connect to my iphone, no problem.

If the buds are connected to my iphone, and I click to connect to them on my android, it connects right away, no problem.

HOWEVER

If the buds are connected to my iphone, and I click to connect to them on my Macbook Air, The iphone stubbornly refuses to allow them to disconnect automatically. I have to physically pick my iphone up and disconnect the buds before going back to my Macbook Air and connecting the buds.

AND EVEN MORE INFURIATINGLY

If the buds are connected to my Macbook Air, and I try to connect to them on my iphone, EVEN IF THE MACBOOK AIR IS ASLEEP, cover closed and everything, THE MACBOOK AIR REFUSES TO RELEASE THE BUDS. I have to go wake it up and disconnect them manually.

What the fuck is with this logic. The two devices you'd expect would be smart enough to "work together" with Apple "Just Works" magic feel like they're literally going ALL THE WAY OUT OF THEIR WAY to make life more difficult for me.

Yet Android to IOS interactions work flawlessly. What the fuck???

I hope I'm just doing something wrong and there's a setting I can enable or something because this makes no sense.
