"How to Automatically Sort Clips Chronologically in Final Cut Pro?"

When editing videos, I sometimes shoot with both a smartphone and a camera. In Final Cut Pro, I want to arrange all the clips on the timeline in chronological order based on when they were recorded. For example:

  • Smartphone clip 1 was recorded at 9:00 AM
  • Camera clip 2 was recorded at 9:04 AM
  • Smartphone clip 3 was recorded at 9:15 AM
  • Camera clip 4 was recorded at 9:20 AM

When I import these files into Final Cut Pro, I want them to automatically be arranged as Clip 1 → Clip 2 → Clip 3 → Clip 4.

The issue is that when I view the files in Finder on my MacBook, the videos are grouped by device type. Smartphone clips are sorted by time within their group, and camera clips are sorted within their group, but they don’t mix together in a single chronological order.

This makes it really tedious to manually check the timestamps for every clip and arrange them one by one in the timeline, especially when dealing with a lot of footage.

Is there a way to make this process easier and have all the clips automatically sorted in the timeline in the chronological order I described?
