grego1878efc Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 Hi Guys, Im new to this forum and am really struggling. Hope someone can help me. Ive just reinstalled a copy of XP Home on my desktop as it was running slow, but the internet was working. Ive reinstalled all the drivers and everything is running fine except i cant connect to the internet. The wireless icon is green, connected and signal strength is very good. All the other pcs in the house and phones are working perfectly on the wireless. When i click on my IE it just says cant connect. Ive trawled for a bit of online help and i think the problem is my ip address as it is 169,...... If i try to enter the ip address manually it sats DCHP is not enabled but if i auto assign it stays enabled but i get the 169 address. Im losing my patience rather quickly. Hope someone can help. Thanks in advance for replies. Ian Quote
johhny-marshal Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Well..if you are using wireless network at your home, you do not need to enter any IP address because it would configure the IP automatically. You just need to enter the key for wireless connectivity. Try doing this, id doesn't work, re-install the driver for wireless connectivity. Quote
grego1878efc Posted August 28, 2012 Author Posted August 28, 2012 Thanks for your reply johhny. Ive tried reinstalling the driver for the wireless but still have the same problem. Its still showing as connected but i think the problem is the ip address that it is assigning the computer. Ive had a laptop running xp alongside the desktop with the problem. Ive copied all the connectivity settings and still have the problem. I hope its something and nothing. Cheers Ian. Quote
