I lost my iCloud password and I can't reset it through Find My because I don't have the number anymore. The thing is, I have access to the phone. I know the passcode, I can try removing it from the Settings app, but to no avail. I sent the purchase receipt to Apple, they replied after 3 days that they removed the account from the device and that I have to restore the phone. I restored the phone, it wiped my data, but the account is still on the phone!!! It didn't give me the "Activation Lock" screen, I completed the setup without it asking me for the login, and the device is like new, but the account is still in the Settings app. I took it to the Apple store, they checked the support ID # and they said it's unlocked and they don't know why the account is still on the device.
